My main suggestion, as in my blog entry, is to start by simply following way points, then overlay additional control based on game behaviors: so, the game AI moves the vehicle but at the same time the vehicle's position is lerped back to the way point path. I had to figure out these things myself, from my own experimentation (and of course lots of playing GTA and Mario Kart). Maybe I should have read your book.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Have you done any work on evolving drivers for racing games? If so, have you written anything up as papers, so one does not have to read a whole book? I've been working quite a bit on this, and I find racing games a really good domain for research in how to evolve artificial intelligence.
